What the heck is strweld process and what does it do?
I have searched all over on docs.hp.com this forum and on google and I can not find anything to tell me what this process does, besides being a system process.
I have a DBA stating he is unable to load a patch because this process is running and he did not encounter the problem on the dev/test system. I looked at streams/ux doco and it doesn't mention mention the strweld. any help is appreciated....

Re: What the heck is strweld process and what does it do?
I got one too.
It started the last time I booted my boxes (Decmember 15 for those keeping score at home).
I have found little on this but suspect its run at boot time since its not very active.

Re: What the heck is strweld process and what does it do?
There are 3 daemons that start with "str":
strmem
strweld
strfreebd
These are very low level drivers involved with "streams".
The only doc I could find is a bit datedm but here it is: http://docs.hp.com/en/J2237-90005/index.html
Try running "strvf" on the machine, just for fun, to see if streams is up and running.

Re: What the heck is strweld process and what does it do?
I believe that strweld is a context in which two streams (in a Streams sense) can be "welded" together, but that is a vague recollection, and I could be wrong.
I'd not expect it to be getting in the way - is there much of anything terribly interesting going-on on the box at the time of the attempted patch, and what _exactly_ is the error message from the patch load?
