boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

I remirrored my boot drives and set mkboot etc... for the primary and alternate but info does not

show up or shows up incorrectly. Should the boot files show up on the alternate boot disk like

they do on the primary boot drive??  And why does the old boot drive c0t10d0 have more boot

files listed. See below.

#setboot
Primary bootpath : 0/0/1/1/0/4/0.8.0
Alternate bootpath : 0/0/1/1/0/4/1.8.0

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

Why you always open a new topic???

Better to continue!

However, if c0t10d0 and c0t8d0 are your boot disks, everything is fine.

c1t8d0 and c1t10d0 are just "extensions" without lvol 1..3; so you need no files in the LIF.

are the needed boot files, all others are offline dianostics - you will never need them.

If somebody else will need them someday, they will use a current version from CD anyway.

Hope this helps!

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

I don't always post a new topic Torsten. I have posted three in the last week after over a year and a

half of being off the forum. This post being the third which has nothing to do with the previsous LVM

problem. You assume too much.

If this is the alternate boot mirror drive. Why does it not have boot info after running mkboot commands??

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

The handling of topics in this new forum is still a bit confusing ...

However, your boot disks are c0t8d0 and c0t10d0.

If this is not want you want, you did something wrong.

Since you did not post your commands, nobody can tell you what you did wrong ...

Hope this helps!

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

When I get back into the office tomorrow I will check what I have for vg00, etc...

I'm pretty sure I had vg00 setup as primary boot drives c0t8d0 and c0t10d0 and

mirrored them to c1t8d0 and c1t10d0 as alternate and installed boot info to c1t8d0.

What happened to the forum? I logged in last week with my old id and for a day

got the old forum style web pages and then the next day it changed. ???

Still trying to figure it all out. I'm at home and have no bottom scroll bar

with XP running IE 8 of this new forum web page.  ??

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

you have vg00 across several disks, only the first disk (holding lvol1,2,3) must be bootable.

All other disks are just "extensions" to vg00, similar to data disks.

So only the LIF of the first disk must be populated.

Same for the mirror, of course.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

Here is the vgdisplay info and lvdisplay of /  and commands I typed after moving c0t10d0

as boot drive over to c0t8d0, etc... to get all vg00 lvols over on c0t8d0 and c0t10d0.

c0t8d0 and c0t10d0 are my primary boot drives. c1t8d0 and c1t10d0 are my alternates.

c1t8d0 should show boot files when doing lifls on it but it does not.

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

I always use

mkboot -l /dev/rdsk/c1t8d0

(lower case L) - not sure if this makes a difference.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: boot files not showing in alternate boot drive.

I unmirrored all the vg00 lvols and did:

pvcreate -B -f /dev/rdsk/c1t8d0

mkboot -l /dev/rdsk/c1t8d0

mkboot -a "hpux -lq" /dev/rdsk/c1t8d0

Now the boot files show up under lifls

 #lifls -l /dev/rdsk/c1t8d0
volume c1t8d0 data size 7984 directory size 8 11/06/29 15:27:47
filename   type   start   size     implement  created
===============================================================
ISL        -12800 584     306      0          07/06/08 17:02:23
AUTO       -12289 896     1        0          07/06/08 17:02:23
HPUX       -12928 904     848      0          07/06/08 17:02:23
PAD        -12290 1752    1580     0          07/06/08 17:02:23
LABEL      BIN    3336    8        0          11/07/11 12:30:09

I guess the -l  with mkboot makes a difference.
