cannot print from server
I am running hpux 11.23 rp8400 server, for past 5 years, with one system rebuild a couple of years ago. I found that I cannot print anything, though all my printers are pingable, and I can telnet to a printer via the jetdirect port and print interactively. The system has printed in the past. I did find that hpnpl was not in root path, and some files under that directory were not owned by BIN. Fixed these, but jobs just sit in print queues. Tried creating new queue with SAM. Tried lpshut/lpsched. No change. Any ideas appreciated. thanks

Re: cannot print from server
What does lpstat show for these printers?
What type of printers are these?

Re: cannot print from server
These are network printers. lpstat shows normal queue information, ie
SJ_MIS_MF2-4 root priority 0 Apr 11 16:03 on SJ_MIS_MF2
(standard input) 219 bytes
I have tried printing to several printers
lpstat -a shows these printers accepting requests
lpstat -p shows "now printing" for these requests

Re: cannot print from server
Just this stuff ad nauseum. Looks like the same printers restarting every 20 seconds or so.

Re: cannot print from server
I have confirmed that remote printing works - but not network printers. We had an issue a few months ago where a remote sites main network connection failed over to the alternate connection. I could ping all printers, but nothing would leave the print queues. All printers to other sites were fine. Our network people determined a problem with the network dropping packets. This looks very similar.

Re: cannot print from server
Used hpnpf to determine no output was being generated - so a problem with the jetdirect software. Reinstalled, then got an actual error (file permission on a tmp dir) now all works.
