hardware path removal LUN

Hi

I have the below--

disk    460  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.0.0   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    461  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.0.1   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    275  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.0.6   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V-CM

disk    147  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.8.3   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    148  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.8.4   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    150  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.8.5   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    153  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.8.6   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    154  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.8.7   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk    155  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.9.0   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk     18  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.14.2  sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

disk     20  0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.1.0.2   sdisk   NO_HW       DEVICE       HITACHI OPEN-V

Now my question is that do I need to cross check before removal or whenever I see this in a system I can directly go for hardware path removal like below

rmsf -H 0/0/14/1/1.11.183.192.0.0.0

Thank you in advance

regards

Arup

Re: hardware path removal LUN

The NO_HW tag means that although the paths existed at sometime in the past, they have been removed from this computer's connections. This would be the case if the disk array was powered down, or the mapping from the Hitachi has been deleted for this system. There is no concern to remove these paths and devices using rmsf. If these paths are restored sometime in the future, just run ioscan, then insf to recreate the device connections.

If you don't know why these NO_HW paths exist, you can run a vgdisplay command and look for error messages about missing devices.

Re: hardware path removal LUN

Hi Mr.Bill

Exactly I want to know this only. As I was asked to cross check before removing these paths as wrong removal may cause issue in the system.Thank you very much.

"Now I can remove these without any fearing"
