restore problem with unattended taper backup

I have written a script to backup the whole system with the following command:

taper -T s +O -l /home/oper/oper.log -U /

However, when I try to restore from the backup, only the directory structure can be restored. None of the files can be restored. Please help. Thanks a lot.

Re: restore problem with unattended taper backup

You didn't mention the command string that you are using to attempt the restore with (it would help). Taper in restore mode defaults to only overwriting files from tape that are newer than files on the file system. This could be part of your problem, but who knows.

BTW... There seem to be a lot of issues with taper (I'm evaluating it now). With some of what I have seen, I'm not sure it is a good choice in a production environment as yet. From what I can see, it has not had the level of test and debugging that backup software needs.
