rx-8640 Booting from tape.

Is rx-8640 capable of booting from an ignite tape ? I created a tape ( ignite version C.7.20) and added a the tape path as a new boot device in EFI but it failed.

Is booting from DVD and switching it over to tape is the only option or am I missing somthing here ?

Re: rx-8640 Booting from tape.

Vijayy,

You are not missing something.
On Itanium Servers you must always boot first from DVD and then switch to the tape before you can restore an Ignite tape

Re: rx-8640 Booting from tape.

Luk, you are not up to date at this point ;-)

This feature is firmware dependent. Several Integrity servers already supports this "native one step tape boot" process.

See the list:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-1949/5992-1949.pdf

See the how-to:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-7999/ch12s02.html

For tape boot on a rx8640 server you need at least firmware bundle version 2.0

Of course you can always use the 2-step method (first boot from DVD, restore from tape).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hello Vijay,

It depends.

Ignite-UX Tape Recovery to a Virtual Partition (vPar) in rx8640 - Not Supported

Ignite-UX Tape Recovery to a Non-vPar in rx8640 - Supported

Thanks
