syslogd not logging anything to /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

In HPUX 11.0 when starting syslogd I get the following message:
"unknown priority name "log" no such device or address"

I've check /etc/syslog.conf nothing seems bad in there (unless maybe a hidden character) and pipe /dev/log is also OK.

Nothing is ever printed to syslog.log file even though is properly specified in /etc/syslog.conf

Any hints on were to look? Thanks for your advice and help.

Hi,

could you verify if there is a tab between the colomns ?
*.info;mail.none /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Re: syslogd not logging anything to /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

It sounds like you have a syntax error in /etc/syslog.conf.

Could you post or attach syslog.conf?

Re: syslogd not logging anything to /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

copied an /etc/syslog.conf file from another workstation, then it worked fine.

only difference I could see between the two files was that there were spaces instead of tabs between the columns. Maybe this was the problem.

thanks for the help

Re: syslogd not logging anything to /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

You're welcome.

'diff old_syslog.conf syslog.conf' to check for differences between the two.
