telnet with vt320 terminal needed

Hi,

We have an application that we're putting on an HP-UX 11.23 (IA-64) machine that requires telnet with a vt320 terminal. This will only be required for select users on the system.

I was thinking I could specify this in the .profile for each select user? Would someone be able to help me on how I would enable vt320 on a per user basis and if I'm on the right track by going at the .profile with this?

Thanks,

Are you thinking about setting TERM in .profile?

Yes in the specific user's .profile

Re: telnet with vt320 terminal needed

A real VT320 is a serial terminal, and is
ill-equipped (physically and intellectually)
to do Telnet (at least without a lot of
help).

What does "enable vt320" mean?

An accurate, precise description of your
actual hardware, connections, and
requirements would go a long way toward
getting a useful answer to whatever your
actual question might be.

Re: telnet with vt320 terminal needed

I added the term setting in the .profile and things seem to be working as we need them to with our Application.

Not sure why the App needs telnet via vt320, but in any event I'm all set.

Thanks for all responses....

I assumed KPS meant that he needed to use telnet between HP-UX machines and his application also needed TERM=vt320. Whether or not there was an actual VT320 involved may be moot?

Re: telnet with vt320 terminal needed

This is correct...

We just need telnet available via vt320 from Desktop to HP-UX Machine for the Application and also between HP-UX machines. This was only a requirement for certain users however and not a system wide requirement.

I don't want to waste too much time on this
(although it's probably too late to avoid it),
but a real VT320 is not a program running on
some Windows system, which is what I assume
that you mean by "Desktop". See, for example:

Note also that "Desktop" is not an "accurate,
precise description" of anything.
