tuneserver - recommending semmsl to be exactly 128

[root@kop5200:/omni_shared/scripts/fs_restore]
# /opt/tuneserver/bin/tuneserver -l

The optimal tunable settings for server applications are:
max_async_ports should be at least 27000
max_thread_proc should be at least 3000
maxdsiz should be at least 3221225472
maxdsiz_64bit should be at least 274877906944
maxfiles should be at least 8192
maxfiles_lim should be at least 8192
maxssiz should be at least 134217728
maxssiz_64bit should be at least 1073741824
maxtsiz should be at least 1073741824
maxtsiz_64bit should be at least 8589934592
maxuprc should be at least 27000
msgmnb should be at least 65536
msgmni should be at least 4096
msgtql should be at least 4096
nkthread should be at least 250000
nproc should be at least 30000
npty should be at least 200
nstrpty should be at least 200
o_sync_is_o_dsync should be exactly 1
semmni should be at least 8192
semmns should be at least 60000
semmsl should be exactly 128
semume should be at least 512
shmmax should be at least 4398046511104
shmmni should be at least 4096
swchunk should be at least 65536
vps_ceiling should be at least 64
vps_chatr_ceiling should be at least 4194304
semmnu should be at least 27000

However, from man page on semmsl:

For those

Hewlett-Packard Company - 1 - HP-UX 11i Version 3 Feb 2007

semmsl(5) semmsl(5)
Tunable Kernel Parameters

that were compiled with the old constant, semmsl tunable values higher
than 2048 will generally not be a problem. However, semmsl tunable
values lower than 2048 may cause other such applications to fail.

Can someone recommend a value for a cell manager in a very large environment? tuneserver is recommending a strict value but I think it is incorrect.

Thank You,
Tonya Underwood

Re: tuneserver - recommending semmsl to be exactly 128

I know this post is old, but I'm gonna chime in anyway, because I too questioned the tuneserver recommendation.

This is the only post I found related to the search that I did.

SInce semmsl actually 'defines the minimum recommended semaphore value', I believe that the tuneserver is correct.

I am leaving my  semmsl  set at 128  as recommended by tuneserver.

Thanks for reading;

Oops, I got my Linux and HP-UX mixed up in my previous post.

Please ignore my comment about semmsl being a miniunm value.

I'm back to questioning the tuneserver again.
