vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

Have one stale extent in a volume group and the disk shows claimed and appears ok, dd shows it as allright. I attempted to run a vgcfgrestore and it fails with the following:

# /usr/sbin/vgcfgrestore -n /dev/rdsk/cXtXdX vg01
vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

This file does not exist. It is showing up in the VG in a vgdisplay so I assume it should be ok. Do I need to remove and re-add this disk into the VG and re-mirror? THe server is on 10.20, I know, I know.. its old.

Re: vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

Why you want to do a vgcfgrestore?

BTW, wrong syntax.

-n vgxx ,the name of the volume group

no need to hide your device file.

Hope this helps!

Re: vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

locate the "stale" extend. It could be in an area without bad block relocation. vgcfgrestore won't help. Consider a bad disk - provide your "dd" test command.

in case of any doubt, see

Hope this helps!

Sorry, but this sounds like "there was a problem, but I found a solution". This is NOT helpful for anyone.

Hope this helps!

You were right. It was a syntax issue. Not sure how I messed that one up, dumb mistake.

Re: vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

restoring a "good" config won't let a stale extend disappearing. Consider a problem with your disk.

Have fun ;-)

Hope this helps!

Re: vgcfgrestore: Error opening LVM configuration file : /etc/lvmconf/cXtXdX.conf

I have had the stale extents disappear this way when I restore the config and re-mirror. So before I replace the disk I always try that first. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
