Hardware compression in SureStore DLT40e
I have have a SureStore DLT40e (Quantum DLT4000), and was wondering if it supports hardware compression. Also, if it does, how do I turn it on and off. Thanks.

Re: Hardware compression in SureStore DLT40e
It will depend upon the device driver that you use.

Re: Hardware compression in SureStore DLT40e
Marcus,
Yes the unit supports hardware compression. The compression will be on by default but it will allow for hosts (software) to change this.
In Windows environments this is controlled by the backup software that you use. You can specify this for every backup job that you define (depending on software used)
In HP-UX this depends on the device file you use to backup to. The device file with the 'BEST' in the name will use hw compression. All others usually wont.
Other flavors of unix will have different methods to control hardware compression.
Hope this helps.
