LTO-3 does not support Hardware Encryption; this was introduced in LTO-4 (and now also in LTO-5).

 

Data Protector can encrypt your tapes using the backup server.

This is sometimes called "Software Encryption".

You will need to create a key with omnikeytool before you can encrypt using Data Protector.

You will also probably need the encryption license.
