HP Storageworks 1/8 Tape Autoloader drivers for Win2008 R2

Hi there,

I have a HP 1/8 Ultrium 448 Tape Autoloader (G1) but cannot find any drivers for Windows 2008 R2.

The drivers page on the HP website only has the Tape tools which does not have the driver.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=nz&prodNameId=501413&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=327382&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4064

I have also tried the G2 drivers, but they don't work.

Device manager only shows one LTO Ultrium 2 tape drive, no Autoloader.

Running tape tools shows the autoloader is definately there. Attached is the Tape Tools report.

The reason I need the drivers is because I have installed Microsoft DPM 2010 and it does not detect the Autoloader Library, only shows up as one Stand-alone tape drive.

Does HP have Windows 2008 R2 drivers for this tape autoloader?

As per the page 12 of the EBS compatiblity matrix the 1/8 autoloader isn't supported with Ultrium 448 with Microsoft Data Protection Manager::

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ebs/pdf/EBSMatrix-0710.pdf

Additionally :::

The drivers are available at ::
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/tape/smartcomp/hpstorageworkstapedrivers.zip

Ensure you set the autoloader mode to "random" so the backup software has control over the robot.
Firmware rev of the autoloader '1.20' is out-of-date as of Fri Jun 2 19:00:00 2006; update to rev '1.50'.

Firmware rev S38W is out-of-date for Ultrium 2-SCSI as of Mon Jun 26 19:00:00 2006; update to rev S54W.

Re: HP Storageworks 1/8 Tape Autoloader drivers for Win2008 R2

I did a scan for new hardware in Device Manager and under "Medium Changer Devices" there was an Unknown Medium Changer.

Updated the driver manually by choosing to Select from a list. Used Windows 2008 R2 built in driver for a DELL PowerVault 136T Autoloader. After installing this driver, I did a rescan in DPM 2010, and it picked up the 'DELL' Autoloader and all the slots.

DPM can now control the autoloader and tape drive.

Thanks.

I just did this with a G1 1/8 Autoloader to use with DPM 2012.  I used the "HP Tape Library" that is built into Server 08r2.
