MSA 6030 SAN

We have an MSA 6030 attached to our SAN switch. We currently don't have any zoning configured. We can see the Tape Drives and the Library on the servers but the servers cannot use them. We are trying DPM and the standard NTBACKUP. If the servers can see the drives does that mean the SAN is configured correctly or am I missing something? Thanks.

Hi,

> am I missing something?

Err, like giving us some useful information to go on !

Why can't you use them ? What are you trying to do ? What happens when you try to do it ?

> does that mean the SAN is configured correctly

If you don't have any zoning then probably not..

If you want people to help, please provide lots more information.

Cheers,

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

... cannot use them ... more details?

Consider to do zoning on the switch and mapping on the NSR.

Hope this helps!

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

Basically the tape drive and the tape library show up in the servers device managers. When I try and run NTBackup the tape drive is an option to save the backup to. When I click run on the backup job I get an error saying the tape drive cannot be found and to make sure the power is on. When I try and run a DPM job it also shows the tape drive and Library as avaiable, but when I try and run a job it just sits and says the job is processing.

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

Sure there is a tape loaded?

Try to install LTT and pull a support ticket:

Hope this helps!

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

Positive there is a tape I loaded it myself...What is mapping on the NSR? I have not found a good description of what it does or how to configure it? Thanks.

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

Hi,

OK, it looks like you're using Windows of some sort... I've never heard of DPM before, but a quick Google suggests you're probably talking about Microsoft's Data Protection Manager.

Assuming that is similar to other backup packages, it's likely to try and lock the devices so that other applications can't interfere with things. Which is why NTBACKUP falls over.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

hi,

nsr mapping - basically defining internal paths from the external connections into the nsr onto devices in the library, the nsr itself is invisible to your os .

Re: MSA 6030 SAN

Thanks for the help, Yes we are using Microsoft Data Protection Manager. I am going to create zones for the two servers that need to use the Tape Drive and Library, and then try and figure out how to create the Mappings on the NSR.
