MSL6030 with Fibre

I have been searching, but I can't seem to find a list of Fibre Channel HBAs that are compatible with the MSL6030. Specifically, I would like to know if anyone has used an A3740A HBA with the MSL6030/6060 libraries.

I did manage to find a document that showed that the A6795A, A6885A, and A6884A are compatible with the MSL5052. Also, any real documentation on the A3740A and it's capabilities/limitations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

Josh,

You may be known that HP A3740A HBA has been end-of-lifed by HP

see the tech spec of A3740A
http://docs.hp.com/en/J6374-90030/ch02s04.html

http://docs.hp.com/en/J6374-90030/J6374-90030.pdf

you can find other type of HP's Fibre channel adapters supoort guide

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

Thanks, I did see that document, but it doesn't give any real info on that card, like what kind of fibre specs it supports (FC-AL, Switched Fabric, etc.)

I also know that this has be EOL'd, but I am trying to have an N4000 connect to the tape library, and there is already an A3740A card in the box.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

Joshua,

Did you look in the EBS compatability matrix (www.hp.com/go/ebs)?

On page 10, it lists HP-UX (PA-RISC) support which includes the N-class servers. It lists:

Fibre Host Bus Adapters

AB465A (2G Combo Card)
A9782 (2G Combo Card)
A9784 (2G Combo Card)
A6826A (2G)
A6795A (2G)
A5158A (1G)

Those are the cards we officially test now.

The first time the MSL6030 appeared on the matrix was April 2003. The HBAs at that time were:

A6795A (2G)
A6685A (1G)
A5158A (1G)

I checked a matrix in between (Jan 05) and the card you mention was not listed there either.

That doesn't mean the A3740A will not work, but it does not appear to be one that we officially tested.

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

There is not a real compatibility between the HBA and the MSL because the compatibility in a SAN environment should be with the whole solution, then usualy standards HBA are supported, there is a document that put togheter all the components supported in a SAN, including HBA, Switches, OS, and ISV backup application, this is the EBScompatibilityMatrix, you can found in the link below

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

Josh,

Upgrade from Tachyon Fibre Channel adapters (A3740A, A3404A, A3591B) to the next-generation HP UNIX├В┬о Tachlite Fibre Channel adapters (A6795A, A6685A, A6684A) vailable... Will it help you?

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

The A3740A is an FC_AL card, A3740A is not fabric-capable, meaning that it does not work with FC switches. Hubs would be OK.
Its succesor 5158A does .

either plug this card directly into the FC_scsi bridge or if you want to use the switch then set the brocade ports whenre these cards connect to , to quick loop .

On firther ioscan and insfe -e , you should see your device file and fcmsutil should work .

For this card the bridge should be at firmware version 3917 and the brocade2800 at firware 2.1.3.

Re: MSL6030 with Fibre

Thanks, I should mention the following:

This system is running 11.00
The MSL is direct attached to the MSL directly.

The ebs matrix components apply to both DAF (Direct Attached Fibre) as well as SAN attached.
