how backup is runnig through fiber or ethernet

Dear Expart,

in our san environmet , storage and all host is connected to FC switch. storage  Lun is presented to host through FC.

for example, storage LUN is mounted to  /stlun directory  in host. and  we have another mount point /anomount from storage in the same host or other host.

if we run run any backup or copy from one directory to another ( same host or other host) . how it happen , through FC or Ethernet ?

can anybody make the fact clear.

Regards,

Morshed.

If you copy from a local directory to another, it will be through FC.

If the backup is to a tape, how is it connected?

If it is to another host, are you using NFS/Samba?

Re: how backup is running through fiber or ethernet

Hi,

we are just moving data from from one LUN to another lun. both lun are mounted in the same host with two diff directory.

storage lun0 -> mount to host A : /test A

storage lun1 -> mount to host A : /test B

storage are connected with host A through FC.  moving data from /testA to /TestB. is it moving through FC or Ethernet.

Re: how backup is running through fiber or ethernet

If FC is the only way to the storage the data will move via FC of course.

In case you are using FCoE, it moves within FC over ethernet.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
