Out of the shadows and back into the IT fold (Part 1 of 2)

How close does the graphic (Figure 1) below come to depicting your IT reality?

All too often, the scenario depicted in Figure 1 is the IT reality we see today. The need for speed is often driving business units to utilize external resources for IT; enter public cloud providers.  This approach is often referred to as “shadow IT”, and frankly, there are many downsides to this approach.  The first and foremost concern should be increased risk, but also of concern is increased transaction costs as multiple user groups could be negotiating directly with multiple vendors.

There is a better way to support end-users in a manner that will provide them with the speed and cost structure that will allow them to more effectively manage their businesses.  The solution will also foster a better working relationship with IT. Jean-Pierre Garbani of Forrester describes the concept well:  “As infrastructure is abstracted through the Business Technology transformation, Infrastructure and Operations evolves from manufacturer and provider of technology components to a broker of business services as well as the instrument through which things become reality.”

Enter the concept of IT being a broker of services as portrayed in graphic below, Figure 2.

As Information Technology (IT) departments become more closely aligned with their customers and the lines of business that they manage, they will evolve to become Business Technology (BT) departments and brokers of services for the lines of business; shadow IT will diminish.  For this to happen, BT will need to act as a consultant to the business with a broader view of the IT environment; as a broker of service, BT will be able to better match IT capabilities and resources to meet business needs.  The result? Reduced transaction costs, optimized use of resources and capital, improved business agility, and increased satisfaction for business units.

Hello N.ASOKAN

I am sorry to hear that you are not able to get your HP product to work as you expect it.

Have you done any research on our HP Support Forums? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?cc=us&lc=en

In there, you will be able to find much information from other community members (many times they are HP Support Technicians) or you will be able to post any question related to your HP product and get help from the community.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,
