A security perspective on HP's new firmware policy.

TSchreider on ‎02-07-2014 01:37 PM

I have had a chance to read many different views both the pros and cons of HP's new firmware policy.  And I can say that both camps are quite passionate about this new policy.  The narrative runs the gambit from companies wishing to protect their intellectual property and ensure customers receive the most value from their technology investments to those that have already decided that they'll switch hardware vendors because they feel firmware should be free forever.  To be sure this dialog is far from over as both sides feel as if they have (very) valid arguments.

I wanted to weigh in on this debate with a positive perspective. HP is not changing its policy on the availability of safety and security firmware updates. They will remain available publicly. HP will still continue to invest significant dollars and resources to ensure the security and safety of its supported products regardless of whether a customer is on a support contract or not.

I would love to know what you think about this, drop me a line.
