Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
Hi All,
I was going through differences between HPVM and vPars. I was stuck on one point. I read that HPVM and vPars cannot be run simtaneously. To check whether a Integrity Host was running HPVMs or vPars, you can run the below command:
# hpvmstatus -s |grep -i support
vPar/VM types supported by this VSP = Shared
What does this shared means? I thought the only values that can appear would be vPars or HPVM.
Is there something that I'm missing?
Thanks,
Ashutosh Singh

Re: Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
The limitation of running both VM and vPar guests simultaneously was removed at v6.2. If you need to run both guests on a single VSP then you should update to version 6.2 or later.

Re: Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
...(continuing Dave's answer)... as long as your HW supports vPars, i.e. if it's i2 or i4 system. See support matrices in HPVM Release Notes.

Re: Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
Thanks Lisa, Dave and Stan.
I don't have much idea about the i2/i4 systems and couldn't find much info about them. Can you guys enlighten me a bit more.
Also, suppose if I've a compatible hardware that can run both vPars and HPVM like rx2800i2, how will I go about configuring both vPars and HPVM on the same server.
Thanks,
Ashutosh Singh

Re: Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
Supports coexistence of VMs and vP ars.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Can HPVm and vPars be run simultaneously?
With HP IVM Ver 6.2 and 6.3 HPVM and vPAR can co-exist on same VSP/host.
You can create VM using "hpvmcreate" and vPAR with "vparcreate" commands. If you want to use both, be sure to reserve 1 cpu core for VSP as per vPAR configuration pre-requisites.
