npar and vpar


Hi,

Example: I have a server that contain a dual card fiber channel and network.

Could i assign 1 card for one vpar and other card for other vpar??

No. vPars are limited to addressing to the card level only. If a card has two ports, both ports are part of the same vPar. Same with multi-port LAN cards.

Actually it depends.  vPars v5 does not allow splitting ports on an interface.  vPars v6 does.

with vPAR 6.x you can use each port for specific vPar using AVIO options. and same port can be shared across vPAR/hpvm.

 

If you are using Direct I/O or older vPAR, one complete card  (PCI Slot) need to assign to vPAR and it can not be shared.
