Upgrade 10.20 to 11.0 or 11i?

Is there a White Paper that compares versions 11.0 and 11i? We run Oracle 7/8 databases for an internal application on 10.20. I'm trying to decide if I should go past 11.0 and install 11i. -- tia

Hi Tom:

11.11 (11i) has quite a few new features compared to 11.0 (as you would expect). As the "current" release, one can expect greater emphasis to be given it than 11.0, which now dates to 1997. Take a look here for a summary:

23 page overview of 11i.

I would upgrade to the latest. 11i has been around long enough that you shouldn't encounter any problems... it's not like it just came out and is unproven.

As has already been mentioned, 11i has been around long enough that it is stable, and it is HP's current release. I would recommend 11i. However, you should make sure that your version of Oracle and any other applications and drivers you are using are supported under 11i. We've had no problem with 11i itself, but have accross several vendors that do not support their software on it. It is still new enough that everyone has not verified their code on it yet.
