Hi,

I'm reading that for September 2009 version the default filesystem included with HP-UX 11i v3 Update 5 changed from VxFS 4.1 to VxFS 5.0.

Re: white paper "Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment

Hi,

Starting with the September 2009 OEUR, the default install of VxFS has changed from 4.1 to 5.0, and VxVM 4.1 has been replaced by VxVM 5.0. This has important implications for several install scenarios. For detailed instructions and information about how this impacts you, consult Appendix B: "Installing VxFS and VxVM├в of the HP-UX 11i v3 Installation and Update Guide, September 2009.

Re: white paper "Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment

Hi Torsten,

I actually want to upgrade OS from v2 to v3 using September 2010 v3 media and would like to retain existing versions of VxFS, VxVM and Online JFS (i.e. 4.x versions) post the upgrade.

As per the installation and update guide for 11iv3 u7, VxFS 5.0 and Online JFS 5.0 are default selections with this update and there is a technical paper in case if we want to retain VxFS 4.1 and Online JFS 4.1 during this upgrade. Please find the clip below from installation and update guide.

===================================================
If you want to remain on VxFS 4.1 and VxVM 4.1, see the white paper "Installation of VxFS and
VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release" (at http://
hp.com/go/hpux-core-docs). The paper includes detailed instructions for the following supported
configurations and other considerations:
├в ┬в LVM with VxFS 4.1 Configuration
├в ┬в VxVM 4.1 with VxFS 4.1 Configuration
├в ┬в Updates from HP-UX 11i v2 with OnlineJFS 4.1 to HP-UX 11i v3 with OnlineJFS 4.1
├в ┬в Updates to HP-UX 11i v3 with VxVM 4.1
===================================================

I'm looking for the whitepaper referenced in the above clip.

Re: white paper "Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment

"Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release" is not available on "http://
hp.com/go/hpux-core-docs".

You could find only the whitpaper for "Cold Installation of VxFS 5.0.1 and VxVM 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment Update Release" on "http://
hp.com/go/hpux-core-docs".

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02008166/c02008166.pdf

But as you said "If you want to remain on VxFS 4.1 and VxVM 4.1"... The same is talked about in the below whitpaper. But the needs you do is as belows:

To update HP-UX 11i v2 systems and to remain at VxVM 4.1 in HPUX 11i v3, use the following command:

update-ux ├в s Base-VXVM

Re: white paper "Installation of VxFS and VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11i v3 September 2009 Operating Environment

I wonder why you want to remain on this older version.

The VxFS 5 version can fully access all data and filesystems created with VxFS 4.
Future development will concentrate on VxFS 5 and chances are that within a year or two, support for VxFS 4 will be dropped and you will have to upgrade anyway.

When I upgraded from v2 to v3, I jumped to the latest versions of everything in one go, including VxFS 5
