HP Integrity Virtual Machines and SAN-based Backup

Does anyone know if IVMs see fiber-attached tape libraries?

Thanks,
Brad

Re: HP Integrity Virtual Machines and SAN-based Backup

Shalom,

It depends on the configuration of the VM and the zoning and SAN configuration.

If there is a Fiber card in the VM there is no reason why the machine should not see the device.

ioscan

from inside the VM machine after doing the san setup and find out for yourself.

Re: HP Integrity Virtual Machines and SAN-based Backup

Shalom,

Thanks for the reply. What you say makes sense, but currently in planning stage, and need to know before making a purchase.

Looking to consolidate. Need to know if VM-guest OS will support fibre-attached tape drives. Otherwise, need to look at vPars.

Thanks again,
Brad

Integrity VM does not yet (v1.0 and v1.2) provide virtual tape devices. It does provide virtual SCSI (DVD and hard disk) devices today.

Isom is correct. Not yet possible..

I also inquired about this for a client who's planning to deploy Itanium Integrity machines (they're getting the dual core Montecitos?) and use IVMs on a SAN..

That's what I suspected. Thanks for everyone's inputs!
