Downloads - FTP vs. HTTP - looking for your input

HP is considering changing the default download protocol to HTTP as opposed to FTP (FTP transfers would still be available, but would not be the default method). This should help to resolve an issue that some customers experience when attempting to download from behind a firewall.

We would appreciate any feedback/comments/suggestions you may have regarding this proposed change.
I work for HP.

Re: Downloads - FTP vs. HTTP - looking for your input

I really don't care what the default is as long as I can choose.

Why not just make the user choose what to use? That way you don't have to worry about a default.

Re: Downloads - FTP vs. HTTP - looking for your input

Hi Kevin:

I'm with Patrick. A choice, no matter the default, would be fine.

In fact, why not make the default a per-user-based one via the user's ITRC profile (or HP-Passport login since that's the direction)?

Regards!

Re: Downloads - FTP vs. HTTP - looking for your input

First of all thanks for asking!

I prefer HTTP, has worked well for me elsewhere.

I often download 3GB ISOs from download.novell.com with wget. This is their help-popup:
http://download.novell.com/dl_manager_inst.html
Just copy&paste that and add a hint that wget can be found in the HP-UX Internet Express Bundle ;-)
