HPE Data Ops Manager: Easier just got better

While many of our competitors are trying to market, launch, and release their cloud management software, we have been busy improving on our already launched solutions. One of these is the HPE Data Ops Manager โ€“ designed to provide cloud like agility for managing your data infrastructure.

While many of our competitors are still trying to market, launch, and release their cloud management software, we have been busy improving on our already launched solutions.

One of the solutions we are making better is the HPE Data Ops Manager. The goal of HPE Data Ops Manager has always been to provide cloud like agility to managing your data infrastructure and just make it plain easy and the updates we are releasing build upon that goal and make it easier.

Letโ€™s start with a look at our Intent Based Provisioning. When we launched this new paradigm in provisioning volumes, we used our years of experience in intelligence and analytics to ask 3 simple questions. Then, we provided you with the best option as to where to place that volume in your fleet. Today we have made Intent Based Provisioning even better and easier. With the enhanced Intent Based Provisioning, we can look at headroom availability of your HPE Alletra array and then make a better-informed decision on where to place the volume.Graphic 1_HPE-Data-Ops-Manager.pngThis better informed decision is based on several metrics, such as application-aware workload patterns, a projection of system performance after the new workload is added, data reduction settings, capacity, and host connectivity considerations. Imagine having to make all those decisions on your own โ€“ and in seconds. The other good thing? Provisioning isnโ€™t forced. If you want to place a workload on a specific array, be our guest. We wonโ€™t judge.

Another way we are making workload provisioning easier is by introducing Intelligent Quality of Service (QoS) for our HPE Alletra 9000 series arrays. Intelligent QoS allows you to set priorities on a specific volume or application set to make sure performance expectations are always met. If there is a resource contention, the volumes with the lowest priority will be capped. The performance will be held for 4 hours and then evaluated and released. This evaluation happens every 30 minutes.

Finally, letโ€™s talk about security.

Security is a priority for all of us. We prioritized these updates and have released Single Sign On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) updates to Data Services Cloud Console. SSO uses SAML 2.0 to integrate with identity providers such as Azure, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), and more. The setup is simple and allows you to integrate with the users and groups that have already been created. Also increases security โ€“ giving you peace of mind.

Graphic 3_HPE-Data-Ops-Manager.pngMulti-factor authentication (MFA) is a necessity for organizations in our increasingly mobile, wireless world. MFA is better than simple 2-factor Authentication. MFA means that you are using a combination of knowledge (something you know), Possession (something you have), and being (something you are). MFA allows you to authenticate with a password and a token-based authenticator such as Google Authenticator that generates a 6 digit code that needs to be entered in order to authenticate the user. The process is simple: enable MFA, configure it with Google Authenticator, and sign on. With that, you will be prompted to enter the 6 digit number in reference to the app on your smart phone.

In my (humble) opinion, the best part about these Data Ops Manager updates is that our customers donโ€™t have to do anything for them to be available.

Revolutionary! Why so simple?

The HPE Data Ops manager is delivered as a service, via the HPE GreenLake Platform and Data Services Cloud Console. So as these and other new features become available, updates or installations are not required. You just simply start using. Now if that isnโ€™t easy โ€“ I donโ€™t know what is.

I hope you enjoyed reading and learning about some of the newest and most exciting updates with HPE Data Ops Manager. Keep an eye out for videos and other materials to be released with more information and guidance on how to configure some of these new features.

And until next time โ€“ happy Storage-ing!
