EVA5000 and Solaris

Setup:
EVA500

Solaris 9 server has FCA2257P hba (drivers QLA2300-3) and is serving as Legato Storagenode 7.2.1.

StorageTek STK-L180, 4 HP Tape Drives, Ultrium-2

Problem:
Every time we enable the port for the Solaris HBA, It goes and communicates with the all tape drives and puts them into service mode. Sometimes I am able to perform a backup but when it does it only backs up about 10 - 20 megs and marks the tapes as full. We have other servers like windows and OpenVMS and they seem to be backing up fine. It only happens we we enable the port for Solaris. Do I need to change any settings on the HBA?
