1000SX lan interfaces over cross-over fiber cable ?

Can we connect 2 1000SX LAN interfaces on 2 systems with cross over connection for data transfer ? normal multimode fibre with LC-LC connectore at each end will work or a special fiber cable is required ?

TIA,

Re: 1000SX lan interfaces over cross-over fiber cable ?

Yes it will work with a standard cable.
You just need to connect RX<->TX & vice versa & IP them on the same subnet.

You probably need to use 2 of the individual cords rather than the duplex so you can cross the TX & RX.

Otherwise should work quite nicely.

Is the interface on this guy fiber?

If so and such an animal exists as a fiber crossover cable, I think you'd need one.

I just swapped some fiber 1000 BaseT for RJ45 ones because I blew the part number on a hardware order.

If its RJ45, why not just try it. The crossover cable costs what $10 US?

Just try it with a fiber cable. I'm quite interested in whether it works or not because have a few idle fiber cards.

Zero point my earlier post. It was mostly mistken. Please zero point this one as well.

Re: 1000SX lan interfaces over cross-over fiber cable ?

I have done this with 100FX with no problems. All that was required was to connect Tx to Rx and Rx to Tx. I haven't used LC connectors though so you may have problems if it is a ganged connector that is keyed so that it can only be plugged in one way.

Re: 1000SX lan interfaces over cross-over fiber cable ?

there is no need for a special cross-over cable with gigabit ethernet. the NICs just figure it out for themselves. copper or fibre.

Rick Jones is right. You don't need cross-over cables. The NICs figure it out... They're smarter I guess.

Re: 1000SX lan interfaces over cross-over fiber cable ?

So you mean even for 1000BT cards - a crossover copper cable is not required? For SX (Fibre)it might but for BT?

A cross-over cable is not required for gigabit ethernet - either copper or fibre.
