HPUX command similar to Solaris command "apropos"???

In Solaris I can enter "apropos intro 8" and receive a list of Sys Admin
Commands... Supposedly there is a similar command for HP-UX????? This tip
came to me in an email from the Unix Guru Universe as a hot tip of the day and
it could be very useful for training my staff who are not familiar with many
sytem admin commands.

Re: HPUX command similar to Solaris command "apropos"???

I just went to ugu and viewed that tip. Then I tested on a SunOS 5.6 box.
Contrary to what the tip implies, "apropos intro 8" produces a list of man
pages whose titles contain the string "intro" immediately followed by a list of
man pages whose titles contain "8".

You can get a similiar and equally useful list on HP-UX by typing "man -k intro
8".

Sun's intro pages have a table of contents while HP's do not. So "man -s 2
intro" gives a very useful page on SunOS, while "man 2 intro" is pretty lame on
HP's.

On Hp's, I do stuff like 'man -k "(2)" when I want to see all the system call
pages. 'man -k "(1M)"' would give use a list of the system admin stuff.

But in any event HP's "man -k" is equalvalent to Sun's "apropos".

Excellent! My first time using this forum and I get a great answer in less
than an hour. How great is that?
