I have a user who needs to map a drive from there laptop (running windows XP) to and HP-UX server running 11.11. Is there anything I need to do on the HP-UX side to make this work?

Solution
There are a couple of ways to approach this:
1) Install the CIFS (Samba) client on your HP-UX box and your Windows native file sharing.

2) Install Microsoft Services for UNIX (SFU) on the PC and the NFS export the drive on the PC and NFS mount it on the HP-UX box.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Mapping a drive from Windows XP to HP-UX server.
It is possible by activating Unix services on the windows PC.

Re: Mapping a drive from Windows XP to HP-UX server.
Hi Tom.
Just a note: CIFS is the easiest option from a user perspective to set up, most of the setup is by the UNIX admin. SFU is a little more difficult to get working in terms of setting up user accounts, etc. But that may be my personal bias showing.
Note however if you are can only run CIFS on a local LAN, WAN connections are problematic, mainly because the SMB protocol usually runs over UDP and not TCP.
