Missing /var/adm/messages and /var/adm/msgbuf

Missing /var/adm/messages and /var/adm/msgbuf

Hi,

   One of our hpux 11.31 server is missing /var/adm/messages and /var/adm/msgbuf.

Can I just recreate it , asign the permission/ownership and restart syslog to make it come back?

/var/adm/messages is typically the output of a crontab script that runs dmesg(1m) to capture the output.

So you can create it with the proper permissions but you need to have a script that runs dmesg.
