Re: nis question

Shalom,

You need to copy the yp database files to /var/yp from the current master server.

Then change /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs to reflect the status change.

ypinit

ypmake

Fix any errors encountered in the process aove.

Re: nis question

Navin,

You can use the same steps described in this document, just stop the nis processes before you start.

# /sbin/init.d/nis.server stop

# /sbin/init.d/nis.client stop

3.13: How to Change IP address, Host Name, or domainname.

If you are changing the IP address, host name or domainname of a NIS machine, you must tear down NIS on the affected machine, make the changes, and then rebuild it. The standard procedure is: 1) remove the NIS files and reboot, per Section 3.7 or 3.8 2) edit the appropriate files to make the desired changes 3) rebuild your NIS environment per sections 3.1 through 3.5 If you are removing a NIS master server permanently you should choose a new machine to be the master and update the ypservers file and rebuild that new machine as the master. If you are removing a NIS slave server permanently you should make sure you update the ypservers file.
