The NTP server (whose IP I can't ping) is internal to us. Other machines are able to sync up with it and work fine (solaris, winXP boxes), but I can't get it to work with the HPUX box. Hmmmmm....

If you can't ping the server, there is a much more basic networking problem. You'll need to discuss this with your network team. You may need to get a copy of Ethereal to trace network traffic from your HP-UX machine to the NTP server.

It would help if you could tell us the IP of the NTP server and show us the output of netstat -rn on the your workstation.
