"UTMP Error"

Hi people,

I have a problem and I don't know how to resolve this.

From a week ago I have obtainded this error: "No utmp entry. You must exec "login" from the lowest level "sh"." when I try to connect throught a telnet session.

Anyone can explain me what is the reason of this error and how I can solve this?

TIA,

David

This happens becasue the /etc/utmp file is corrupt or imporper , just move ti to antother filename and create an empty file by touch /etc/utmp and you are good to go.

Re: "UTMP Error"

Most likely it's due to the corruption of /etc/utmp. If you can't get accessed to the box with root capabilities, you'll have to empty "utmp" file ( >/etc/utmp ) in single user mode.
