Re: rpc.lockd

rpc.lockd

We have an HP 9000 A-Class and L-Class server that we use to control several
HP-UX clients (300 and 700 series) on the factory floor. The servers run HP-UX
11.00.

The clients lock up on a fairly regular basis. To get them started again we
have to kill the rpc.lockd process and restart the file. Sometimes we have to
kill the rpc.statd file as well.

Got any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Help!!

Re: rpc.lockd

The fix for this problem is for rpc.lockd to
now allow for the maximum number of open files
for processes on a system.

PHNE_18221 (superceded by PHNE_20371), with dependencies:
PHCO_20765
PHKL_21361
PHCO_19945
PHNE_19759

Re: rpc.lockd

So just exactly what is the normal way rpc.lockd/rpc.statd is supposed to work
and what is actually happening in the situation I described?

Inquiring minds want to know and I need to be able to explain what is
happening.

Re: rpc.lockd

Also, I see information concerning "required" patches for HP-UX 11.0 and that
they are supposed to be installed "before" you install the software (found in
the "patch information" page). Our software is already installed and running.
If I installed the patches you sent to me will this cause a problem on my
servers/system?

Thanks,

Re: rpc.lockd

Also, would the patches be installed at the client (300, 700 series running
hp-ux 10.2) or the server of them all (running hp-ux 11.0)?

Thanks,

Re: rpc.lockd

Mary, there should be on problem installing the patches.

I am still researching the internals to determine the problem with rpc.lockd.

Re: rpc.lockd

I have installed some of the patches you suggested and more. Some of the patches were superceded by others. I believe I installed 11 when all was said and done. The rpc.lockd issue appears to have vanished since we installed the patches on 5-7-00.

I would like to thank you for your help. I would also still like to understand just exactly what was happening when the rpc.lockd would hang up. Any luck on finding some details??

Re: rpc.lockd

Hallo
We had that type of problem before with UX10.20 and rmb (BASIC Programming)
Solution led as far as /usr/lib/libc.1. It had to deel with file opening via nfs.
We installed quite sone patches to get rid of that hanging of rpc.lockd.
Can not tell exactly what helped most.

See also /var/adm/rpc.lockd.log

... we all can make it with a little help ...
