Service Guard configuration basics

Is there a site that explains the nuts and bolts of SG configuration? The basic steps to take.

Also, where do I find SG 11.17 for 11.0?

Re: Service Guard configuration basics

Read "Managing MC/ServiceGuard" - http://www.docs.hp.com/en/B3936-90073/index.html

From release notes -
"Serviceguard version A.11.17 is compatible with the HP-UX 11i v2 Update 2 operating system"

Re: Service Guard configuration basics

Shalom,

I don't think 11.17 was released for 11.00. If it was its on the applications cd's. It is not downloadable.

Problem never ends, you must know how to fix it

Re: Service Guard configuration basics

I'd like to know why anyone would want to look at implementing SG on a version of the OS which is out of support.

The last version of Serviceguard released for 11.00 was 11.14.

The last version available for 11.11 (11iv1) was 11.16.

11.17 and 11.18 are available for 11.23(11iv2)

The only version currently available for 11.31 (11iv3) is 11.17.01

Re: Service Guard configuration basics

If you don't have codeword and matching CD part No., you are not going to be able to swinstall any version. SG is a purchased product. SG is one of the few products that I suggest you attend a class for. Actually getting SG up and running is easy --- assumming that you are very comfortable with LVM and/or VxVM. The hard part is getting your hardware, network, and environment robust enough so that SG is a net positive. That is what you learn in the SG classes. If you don't do these things (especially network robustness and redundancy) then you can actually wind up with a cluster that is LESS reliable than a standalone system.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Good question... Legacy software that can only run on 11.0 PA-RIsc.
