Slow ioctl on DVD-ROM drive
When I do ioctl SIOC_INQUIRY on normal SCSI disks, it completes
quite fast (with 1 sec), but when the ioctl SIOC_INQUIRY is done
on the DVD-ROM (it is also SCSI), it takes aroun 20 seconds.
Same is observed for diskinfo too.
Is there a reason why it takes such a long time for the DVD-ROM
to respond to the ioctl?
With regards,

Re: Slow ioctl on DVD-ROM drive
Nikhil,
did you try to insert CD-ROM disk into drive? Insert valid CD disk and you will see it will work for one second.

Re: Slow ioctl on DVD-ROM drive
This seems to be a generic problem with some CDROM and DVD brands. In the past, diskinfo would hang for the same reason. The problem is that the query may contain a request for the size of the media and the drive does not report anything until a CD or DVD is in place. Other drives seem to report 0 bytes quite easily.

Re: Slow ioctl on DVD-ROM drive
Sorry for the delay in replying.
Thanks for the information!
When a disk is present in the
DVD drive, it does finish
within 1 second.
Is there any patch available
(e.g. firmware upgrade)
to resolve this issue?
With regards,
Nikhil
