special character in trusted mode

Hi all,
Can the special character (#$%&) be implemented in changing root pwd?

Re: special character in trusted mode

From the passwd man page:

"Avoid password characters which have special meaning to the tty driver, such as # (erase) and @ (kill). You may not be able to login with these characters."

It makes no difference whether the system is trusted or not.

Re: special character in trusted mode

HI all. The problem is we already change the password and cannot login with this new password. In other word root pwd gone.
How to restore?
Can i just restore from backup only file /etc/passwd?

Re: special character in trusted mode

If this is a trusted system, restoring /etc/passwd will not help. You can boot in single user mode and use the passwd command or you can restore the tcb directory structure.

Re: special character in trusted mode

id go to single user command and type passwd it will require an old passwrd which has been changed with that special character.

To restore option? can explain in details
