Use of OpenSSL

Hi Experts,

Can any body tell me use of OpenSSL in HP-UX?

Is it require for application perspective?

is there any impact over vulnerability if we don't  use OpenSSL software?

Regards

Re: Use of OpenSSL

HI,

Better explaination about SSL should be here,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSSL

To download open SSL

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Languages/openssl-1.0.0d/

Thanks

Re: Use of OpenSSL

Some HP software requires OpenSSL be installed. I think WBEM requires it, which, in turn, is required by System Fault Management (SFM).

Re: Use of OpenSSL

Hey;

>>Can any body tell me use of OpenSSL in HP-UX?

wow; that is one wide question.  Someone posted a wikipedia link.  That's a good place to start.  O'Reilly's also has a good book on openssl.  ISBN: 978-0596002701.  In short (very short): openssl encrypts network traffic.

>>Is it require for application perspective?

That depends if your network makes calls to the openssl libraries.  Generally not, but there are ways of making retrofits.

Assuming no other encryption, then all your data is going over the network in the clear.  If you have a well protected network, that may or may not be a problem.  If your data's going over the internet, then it very definitly *is* a problem.  If you're dealing with financial or personal data, then regardless of your network location, then it very definily *is* a problem..

Hope that helps.
