What is an "authorities" file?

Does anyone know what an authorities file is and what it is used for?

Re: What is an "authorities" file?

Hello,

If you are referring to the '.Xauthority' file, it is a file created and used by the 'xauth' program, which "lets you edit and display the authorization information used in connecting to the X server", according to 'man xauth'.
