8100i and Windows 2000 addition

Oh yeah, I have also even had disks that show up OK in explorer, but when I try to run a program off the CD (such as setup) the computer reports that xxxx is not a valid Win32 application. I am apparently having writes mess up at varying spots with various symptoms, even though they appear at first to complete correctly.
And to make sure we have all the info:
HP 8100i
Windows 2000
Various programs, even tried installing only one at a time to prevent conflicts.
Removed DLL's, reinstalled software.
Still doesn't work.
