CD-Writer, DirectCD and Window XP

I 'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I purchased a cd-writer 8220. I've recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional. I reloaded the software that came with the writer and of course it was old software. I downloaded the new Driver file from hp to get XP to recognize the new drive. Windows XP now tells me the my version of DirectCD is not compatable with XP. I went to Roxio and downloaded the upgrade for the hp writer. For some reason it's a separate file from the normal DirectCD software. I think it's DirectCD 3.01. I am still getting the error. If I look at the other upgrades of DirectCD there is one that works with Windows 2000. Should I try to download it? Any suggestions out there? Thank You.
