If HP is an ethical company, they'll recall all 8230e's.
These things are aweful and HP ripped me off just like so many others. Search Google Groups for "8230e" and see for yourself.
Yesterday, I burned 3 disks with WinXP's built-in software. Today, *nothing* will work - I've tried 8 different configurations, rebooting each time.
Will HP ever address this problem?
No? Fine, then I'll never buy a HP/Compaq product again and I'll recommend the same to all my friends/relatives (who constantly ask for recommendations).

Have you tried to replace your CDRW drive with a new one if your's still under warranty.
Or tested this in HP service center to make sure this is a hardware problem not a software problem.

I can still call the service center at a long distance phone number and be charged for customer support.
Guess what I wanted to know from HP?
So, are these all known working version numbers,
according to HP?

That, as we all know, is simply the lowest form of customer support. Well, second lowest - lowest would be "Buy a new computer, dude".
Well, yesterday I burned a disk using Nero.
Today, using Nero I can crash my computer.

Re: If HP is an ethical company, they'll recall all 8230e's.
Make a call, you will get help.
You seem Irate, and I don't blame you. I don't work for HP, but if you call the toll free number, you will get help.
The reinstall windows comment seems quite reasonable to me.
After dealing with Oracle Support, Merant support, Xiotech support, and Segate support, I can tell you that HP has the best support in the business.
I've been dealing with HP support on big Unix boxes for years. We have a $1 Billion business that all runs through my HP-UX boxes. Its mission critical and HP has stayed up all night with me on a number of problems, once dispatched hardware help at 2 a.m. even though my contract ends support at 9 p.m., because my call started at 4 p.m.
If you make the call, I think you'll get satisfaction.
