Drive failures in slot 0 and 1

I have a DL 380 server running NetWare 6.5 SP7. The drives in slots 0 and 1 failed. After many reboots, it's possible to get the system to come up, but after a couple of minutes it reads the drives as having failed, dismounts the volumes and shuts down directory services. Does anybody have any ideas how to work around this without losing data? I don't think that we have a current backup, so we would want to pull the data off of the drives somehow, if we had to bring up a different server. Thanks.

Hi!
Have you tried to use something like Knoppix or other linux LiveCD\DVD? It should not reboot\shutdown automatically even if it detects disks failure.

No backups? Some one should be fired.

If the drives are failed, you can send them to Ontrack in Minnesota. It can cost $4000+ to recover your data.

If two drives failed at one time, it could be a controller, cable or backplane that caused it. The problem with Novell is nothing can boot it externally. It is not like Windows where you can slave the drives? What RAID level is disks 0 and 1? Is it RAID 1? You could split them up. Do you have other slots to place the two drives in? Do you have another server you could place the drives in?
