HP DL380 G7: Expand Available Space

Hi,

Currently I have two 146 hot-swap HDD in my server, under RAID 1. I'm running out of space and added two new ones. Tell me if I'm wrong but in this case I just need to format both of them but where can I tell Windows/Server both new disks are for expanding  the current RAID 1 and not for additional unmirrored free space?

Hi,

There can be only two drives in Raid 1 and if you have added two new drives want to expand space, then you can create new set of Raid 1 or you can convert Raid 1 into Raid 5 and use all four drives in Raid 5.

Its called "Raid Migration", see the below links for more information.

Thank You!

Re: HP DL380 G7: Expand Available Space

Hi,

The minimum requiremenet for RAID 1 level redundancy is two. When more than two drives are installed, they become part of the array and the fai;t tolerance level is n-1, where n is the number of drives.

The ORCA or Array Configuration Utility may be used to manage extra drives.
