ML350G9 - Expand RAID 10 over two cages
Hello,
I have the following situation: ProLiant ML350 G9 with an RAID10 over 8 SFF disks on the first cage. It used the internal Smart Array P440AR.
Now I have put a Smart Array P840/4GB controller and a 12G SAS Expander into the server, connected the expander to port 1 from P840. The first 8 SFF disk cage with existing RAID10 was connected to the expander. Then we have connected a second 8 SFF disk cage with 8 additional disks to the expander.
Overall I have 16x 300GB SAS in two cages.
My problem is that I can't expand the existing array with 8 additional SFF disk from the second cage. The battery is connected and fully charged. I have tried to expand in windows and from intelligent provisioning too.
What could be the problem?
Regards,
Dennis

Re: ML350G9 - Expand RAID 10 over two cages
For now, it seems to be a bug in the HP Smart Storage Administrator GUI that no expand button/option is available (only move option is present).
When I add disks via command line (ctrl slot=3 array A add drives=1I:1:9,1I:1:10), the controller starts to expand the RAID10 array.
Iam running the lastest version of Smart Storage Administrator (2.20.11.0) and P840 Driver (63.10.0.64). Of course firmware is uptodate too.
Regards,
Dennis

Re: ML350G9 - Expand RAID 10 over two cages
Hi.
Are you still using the P440ar ?
If yes, you cannot have a RAID 10 array between the P440ar and P840/4G.
Try removing the SAS expander and connect the P840/4G to Bay 1 & Bay 2 via Y-Cable.
The P840/4G can support 16 Disks without SAS Expander.
Thanks,
Paul
