Proliant DL380 G3 shutdown during tape restore on with 4196 - cpqasm2 error
Every time we attempt a restore on our HP Proliant DL380 G3 with Brightstore Arcserve the server seems to crash after some time.
(Also when we put in the selected tape, the restore estimated time often says 80 hours or even 300 hours, isn't that a bit long?)
Each time we find the following errors in event viewer:
Event ID: 6008
Source: EventLog
Type: Error
The previous system shutdown at 10:39:42 AM on 8/2/2007 was unexpected.
Event ID: 4196
Source: cpqasm2
Type: Error
The system encountered a Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) prior to this boot. The NMI source was: PCI bus error, slot unknown.
Server: HP Proliant DL380 G3
OS: Windows 2000 Server SP4
Tape drive: HP LTO Ultrium-1 drive
BrightStor ARCServe backup: Version 9.0 (Build 2020)
I'm not too sure what the exact cause is.
Is the PCI bus faulty and in need of replacement?
Is the Arcserve software or cpqasm2 in need of udpating?
(My first time working with this server, hence...)

I am sure you are using a separate U320 adapter for the TAPE Drive.
Also check Firmware for latest versions.
Cheers !
James.

Re: Proliant DL380 G3 shutdown during tape restore on with 4196 - cpqasm2 error
Thanks for the reply.
Indeed, an Ultra320 SCSI adapter is installed.
Haven't been able to check the firmware versions yet, not sure how to check and/or update them safely while the backup is running.
It does look like the BrightStor Arcserve isn't up to date according to what I found at CA's site. I'll see if it can be updated.

Re: Proliant DL380 G3 shutdown during tape restore on with 4196 - cpqasm2 error
We have updated our Brightstore Arcserve software to the latest version, but whenever we attempt a restore (tested with different tapes) the server still crashes with the same error 4196 for cpqasm2 in the event log.
Backups themselves work, albeit rather slow...
