Storage controller missing in vSphere after installing an update

Hi community,

we are using a HP DL 380p Gen8 with a HP customized VMware vSphere 5.1 U3 server and we need to install an update (ESXi510-201503001.zip[1]) in order to fix a VSS failure in the guest systems, which is described in [2]. After we applied this update and rebooted the host system we lost contact to the Smart array P830 controller and therefore no datastore is available anymore in vSphere client. It seems that this patch replaces some system files belonging to the storage subsystem but contains no driver for this P830 controller.

What went wrong during this update and is there a possibility to fix that problem in some way?

I asked that question already in a VMware community too but maybe someone here knows an helpful answer.

Thx in advance & Bye Tom

Re: Storage controller missing in vSphere after installing an update

Hi Tom,

Do you have the lastest HP drivers for ESXi 5.1 installed on the server?

I would go here:

http://vibsdepot.hp.com/hpq/latest/esxi-510-bundles/

download the files and install them on your server. Th esxi5.1uX bundle contains the latest drivers for the smart array controllers.

Unfortunately this will require a reboot of the server.

I hope this helps you
