E 800 processor upgrade - Please advise
Have an HP Netserver E800 dual-cpu capable with one Intel 800mhz 133fsb 256kb l2 cache. Our HP authorized dealer claims they can no longer get these chips from HP. Its my understanding that an Intel chip is an Intel chip regardless of the oem manufacture in which the chip resides.
My question is, is it not possible to just purchase another of the same 800mhz socket 370 chips and add it in to make for a total of two of the same chips?

The only issue you have with purchasing an OEM model processor is the stepping involved between the two processors. Make sure your BIOS is up to date, you may need to switch which processor is in slot 1 to make them work. Here is where you can find the BIOS:
