Do we need to disabled both encrryption and compression to get hardware compression in tapes?

Re: Hp lt09
Hi,
if the Tape Drive gets Encrypted Data, it can not Compress it.
The LTO Tape Drive has a Hardware-Based Compression and Encryption.
You can try if Software Compression is better than Tape Hardware.
Usually, Hardware Encryption is faster.

Re: Hp lt09
HW Compression will be much faster and effective. When you encrypt the data at the SW level. Compression gets hit irrespective whether its from HW or SW. Encryption encapsulation makes it difficult.
Disabling Encryption at the SW level can bring in a significance change in both compression ratio and the speed of the data transfer. Once disabled, test SW and HW compression and enable the one which is most effective.
Hope this helps.
