Re: W2k SP4 to W2003 upgrade hang on DL380-G4

Hi Adrian,

Have you checked that the NIC is on the 2003 Hardware Compatibility List?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/server/default.aspx?subID=22&xslt=categoryProduct&pgn=31d07d79-88d0-444d-bbe0-20a2620cc7ea

If it is not, I would install a NIC that is on there and then do the upgrade.

I am not an AD expert, but is it possible to create a new 2003 DC (or two) and transfer the FSMO roles from the old 2000 DC onto the new 2003 ones? Obviously you need more hardware this way and again my apologies if this way is not posssible - just a thought as I always try and stay away from inplace upgrades

Cheers

Hi,

Try to install your NIC with its previous version driver.

Hi Adrian

Simply reboot the server. When booting, press f8 to enter advanced options and select the last known good configuration.

Should work fine from here.

Did it all again with the network correctly terminated in a hub and it worked a lot better. Even popped up a HP window suggesting installing the latest drivers from the smartstart CD (a bit of a bonus)

Try the last known config option - see above.

no joy reverting to last known config (there was only one anyway)

Articles don't apply. I'm accessing from the console and the admin user account is not a member of the remote users or power ... group. Only Administrators and Domain Admins.

I am a little bit confused, is your os still windows 2000? Did you try to logon by remote desktop connection? Can you use another account to login? If so, check local policy.

Check addresses

and check if you can use ntrights utility
